Orange Have Strong First Day at IRA Regatta

Syracuse placed all three eights into the AB semifinals at the 2025 IRA Championship Regatta on Friday morning while the Varsity Four earned a spot in the Grand Final for Saturday at 1:20 p.m. Saturday's semifinals have been pushed back four hours due to anticipated inclement weather overnight and will now begin at 12 p.m.
The Varsity Eight went 5:39.56 in Heat 3 finishing behind Harvard (5:35.05) and Yale (5:36.56) and ahead of Cornell (5:45.03), Oregon State (5:55.04) and UC San Diego (6:03.95). Syracuse will line up in Semifinal AB against Stanford, Princeton, Cal, Harvard and Northeastern at 12:32 p.m. Saturday.
The Second Varsity Eight (2V8) placed second in Heat 3 behind Harvard (5:38.21), crossing the finish in 5:41.70. Northeastern was third, as the final team advancing to the AB semifinal with a time of 5:44.17. Cornell (5:55.40), Georgetown (5:58.12) and UC San Diego (5:59.97) rounded out Heat 3 advancing to the CD semifinals. Syracuse will line up with Penn, Princeton, Cal, Brown and Boston University at 12:56 p.m. on Saturday.
In Heat 1 of the Third Varsity Eight, Syracuse placed second 2.58 seconds behind Washington (5:44.43) and ahead of Northeastern (5:49.95). Navy and Georgetown closed out the heat and moved on to the CD semifinals. Syracuse's 3V8 is set to race Northeastern, Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard and Cornell at 1:12 p.m.
Syracuse's Varsity Four posted the sixth-fastest time in the time trial and earned a spot in Semifinal ABC in the afternoon. 'Cuse cruised to a second-place finish in the semifinal Washington (6:17.52) and ahead of Princeton (6:21.36) by 0.84 seconds to make the Grand Final. The Varsity Four Grand Final is set for 3:20 p.m. and will feature Penn, Brown, Washington, Cal and Harvard.
