Syracuse Ready for the IRA Championship

The Syracuse men's rowing team returns to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta this weekend at the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. The Orange are seeking another top 10 team finish after placing eighth overall in 2024. Preliminary heats begin Friday morning with semifinals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday, June 1.
In the heats the top three finishers advance to the AB semifinals and the remaining boats go to the CD semifinals.
The Varsity Eight, led by coxswain Joseph Biondolillo and stroke seat Declan Fry, lines up in Heat 3 at 8:32 a.m. The Orange will be in Lane 2 and will line up with Oregon State, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, and UC San Diego.
The Second Varsity Eight, steered by freshman Lucas Tan, is set to race at 9:20 a.m. in Heat 3 (Lane 5) against Georgetown, Northeastern, Harvard, Cornell, and UC San Diego. The Orange beat Cornell and Georgetown in head-to-head races earlier this season.
The Third Varsity Eight with Anders Erlandsen in stroke seat races in Heat 1 at 9:36 a.m. against Georgetown, Washington, Northeastern and Navy. Syracuse will be in Lane 2 and will have faced Navy and Georgetown during the regular season having defeated both squads.
The Varsity Four, coxed by senior Katherine Kelly, will start in 35th position in the time trial style head race which begins at 11:30 a.m. The Orange will advance to the semifinals based on their standing in the time trial results. Varsity Four semifinals are set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
