
Volleyball Finishes Kathy DeBoer Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Syracuse volleyball finished the weekend with a setback to the Belmont Bruins, losing in three sets at the Breslin Center for the Kathy DeBoer Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University.
"I'm very proud of our group, managing obstacles like illness and injuries that we have faced early in this season," stated coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "We took a big step forward this weekend and we are focused on the process. It is only a matter of time until our effort and focus will turn into results."
'Cuse (0-6) battled back-and-forth with Belmont. Coming off one win and one loss from the day before, the Bruins started the match hot with a service ace. The Orange did not back down, keeping pace with the Bruins but ultimately lost the first set. 'Cuse had its best play of the match in the second set, creating a 5-2 scoring run that brought the Orange lead to 20-17. Cherlin Antonio had her best match of the season offensively, accumulating 15 points throughout the match. The Orange had a good showing from behind the line, totaling six service aces as a team with two each from freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy and graduate student Alyssa Bert.
Of Note:
·    Freshman Mira Ledermueller had a significant impact in her debut matches for Syracuse, totaling 65 assists on the weekend along with eight kills.
·    Junior Cherlin Antonio collected 26 kills in just seven sets of play this weekend.
·    Bert served up eight aces in the three matches from this weekend, with a team high of four against Delaware State.
Up Next:
Syracuse will return to the court on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 to play against Cornell at 7 p.m. from the Newman Arena at Bartels Hall.Â
