
Volleyball Falls in First Matches of Season

ALBANY, N.Y. – Syracuse lost in its first two matches of the season against Navy and UAlbany, dropping both matches in three sets at the Albany Capital Center for the UAlbany Invitational, hosted by the University at Albany.
'Cuse (0-2) had its best set against Navy in the third, taking the lead multiple times with the largest winning margin being five points. In the third set, the Mids tied the Orange at 17 before going on a 4-1 run and winning the set 25-20. Sophomore Ariana Joubert paced the Orange offense against Navy, recording seven kills. Freshman Greta Schlichter was a close second to Joubert, accumulating six kills in the match. Freshman Veronica Sierzant recorded a team-high 17 assists in the match.
Against UAlbany, the Orange had the lead numerous times. In the second set, Syracuse took the lead seven different times. A four-point run in set two put Syracuse up 12-8. The largest Orange lead of the match came later in the second set at 14-9. Freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy led the team's offense with eight kills, totalling 11 in both matches on the day. Sierzant continued her support into the second match, recording 22 assists against UAlbany and 39 assists on the day.
Of Note:
·    Sophomore Ariana Jobert led the team today on offense with 7 kills in each match, totalling 14 on the day.
·    Three freshmen; Greta Schlichter, Veronica Sierzant, and Zharia Harris-Waddy made their Syracuse debuts. Also making their first Syracuse appearance were transfers Laila Smith, Lauren McCabe, and Cherlin Antonio.Â
