ATLANTA, Ga. – The Syracuse University volleyball team was defeated by #9 Georgia Tech on Sunday in straight sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-13). The top ten Yellow Jackets squad began the match with a 4-0 scoring run in the first set. After stringing together runs of three, four, and five, Georgia Tech took set one, 25-12.
Â
"I'm really proud of my team, I think they deserve the utmost respect," said head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "We traveled seven players to play the number nine ranked team in the country. We had two defensive players and a setter hitting on the outside. The way they approached the challenge and competed deserves a lot of respect, especially on the road. We started shaky on serve and receive, but we were able to fight our way back to serve aggressively and attack where we wanted to against Georgia Tech. We might have lost the match, but I think we gained a lot with the way we competed and played today."
Â
The Orange fought back in the second frame, going on a six-point run late in the set including a kill from freshman Veronica Sierzant and an ace from freshman Mira Ledermueller to cut within two of the Yellow Jacket lead, 19-17. Syracuse came close, but ultimately lost the second frame to Georgia Tech, 25-20. 'Cuse battled in the early stages of the third set as the score was tied six different times, with the last tie bringing the score to 9-9. Georgia Tech ended the set and match with a 9-1 scoring run, 25-13.
Â
Of Note:
Next Match:
Syracuse will be back home in the Women's Building to close out the regular season against #7 Pitt on Friday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. The match will have live stats available and can be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
