SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse Volleyball emerged victorious over Boston College in front of an electric crowd inside the Women's Building on Wednesday Night, 3-2 (13-25, 25-13, 25-18, 15-25, 19-17). Tonight was the fifth ACC opener between the two squads and the first time the squads have gone five frames against each other in league opening action.Â
Â
"We did an excellent job tonight," said head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "A large part of our success was due to sticking with the game plan and executing it to the highest ability that we could. Our success tonight was also contributed to our ability to make adjustments, which led to a great team win and a great way to open conference play."
Â
Boston College (11-3,0-1 ACC) paced the night in points (76-72), aces (9-5), assists (52-50), and digs (53-43). Syracuse (5-6,1-0 ACC) didn't pace the matchup in any categories as a team but managed to tie the Eagles in kills (54) and blocks (13).Â
Â
The first two sets of the match were traded. BC took the first set, which was reversed by SU in the second frame with the same score (25-13). The Orange then took set three before allowing the Eagles to force the matchup into five sets.Â
Â
In the fifth frame, the Orange were down one, 14-15. Senior Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk stepped up big with a kill followed by a service ace, giving 'Cuse a 16-15 lead. The Eagles responded with a kill and service ace from Alayna Crabtree to put the visitors a single point up. Syracuse then went on a 3-0 run to secure the first conference victory of the season with a score of 19-17 in set five. The final three points all came as errors committed by Boston College.Â
