SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse volleyball (11-13, 7-7 ACC) emerged victorious over Virginia (11-14, 3-11 ACC), 3-1, inside the Women's Building on Sunday afternoon.
"I'm so proud of our team today," said head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "Today we wanted to serve well, make sure that we win the passing game, and achieve balance. We were able to achieve all of these things today which helped us get the win."
The Orange captured victories in sets one (25-19), and two (25-11), before falling in the third frame (20-25). Virginia held a 22-20 advantage in the fourth set, but Syracuse rattled off a 5-0 run to close it out and secure the victory. Two kills from Polina Shemanova and Naomi Franco, a pair of UVA attack errors, and a bad set from the visitors composed the final five points in the win.
Viktoriia Lohkmanchuk led 'Cuse with 13 kills, while Shemanova and Franco each had seven apiece. Shemanova also recorded a match-high six service aces. Alyssa Bert recorded 11 digs on the defensive end. Raina Hughes had herself a day with five total block assists.
'Cuse will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 11, as the squad will head to the Steel City to take on Pitt. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m. and the action will stream live on ACCNX.
