Shaipova, Bennison Earn Weekly Honor

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This week's SU Scholar-Athlete of the Week honorees are Andrew Bennison of cross country and Valeriya Shaipova of volleyball.

Shaipova and the volleyball team are closing out a brief four-match home stand this weekend against Louisville and Wake Forest. Friday night at 7:00 PM SU welcomes the Cardinals to the Women's Building and will take on the Demon Deacons Sunday at 1:00 PM.

The Child and Family Studies major has acquired 86.5 points on 68 kills, 25 block assists and six service aces this season while battling back from a season-ending injury in 2013. Her best game of the season was just a week ago at Boston College when she recorded her first double-digit kill match of the season with 13 on the day.

Bennison, a Philosophy major, has performed well on the cross country course this season placing third on the team and fifth overall in the season opening Harry Lang Invitational. He finished fifth for SU and 22^nd overall the following weekend at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational and finished 109^th overall a week ago at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.

Men's cross country returns to action this weekend as the squad will split and head to Wisconsin for the Meet of Champions on October 17 and to Princeton for its invitational on October 18.
