'Cuse Awards on Center Stage Tonight
5/1/2012 11:21:23 AM | Cuse Awards
It's a celebration of the Syracuse Orange! An opportunity to re-live the accomplishments of the finest Orange student-athletes around. The sixth annual 'Cuse Awards are tonight at the Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center on the SU campus. The awards show will begin at 8 pm and will be televised Time Warner Cable Sports.
The annual event celebrates the past year in Syracuse University Athletics and honors Orange student-athletes for their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
The 2012 edition of the 'Cuse Awards will feature a music video, led by Jarret Eaton, Kelly Saco, Erika Wachter, Will Watson, Amadou Gueye, Donald Pollitt and Otto the Orange, along with other Orange student athletes and the debut of 'Teammate Trivia,' a game featuring teammates to determine who knows the most about their peers.
Prior to the program, Rochester's Nik and the Nice Guys, an 11-piece rock and roll band known for their exciting live performances at high profile events, will perform.
“It's a great opportunity to experience the camaraderie, and to bond with the student-athletes,” said Roger Springfield, director of multi-media services and the producer of the 'Cuse Awards. “During the year they're all busy with their individual teams so they may not get to watch each other. Tonight everyone comes together to celebrate the accomplishments of all student-athletes and teams. The student-athletes and coaches are amazed to see some of these accomplishments that they wouldn't have had the chance to otherwise.”
Established in 2007 by Syracuse University Athletic Director Dr. Daryl Gross, the 'Cuse Awards celebrate the successes of all Orange student-athletes, including the presentation of the awards for Athletes, Rookie and Coach of the Year, the Soladay Awards, Team, Performance, Play, Game, Shot and Defensive Play of the Year, Most Improved Team, the Ernie Davis Courage Award, and each individual team's 'Cuse Award winner. The 'Cuse Awards will also honor first team All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, the team with the highest collective grade point average, the most points in the NACDA Director's Cup, and the team that has done the most community engagement.
