With only five days until the sixth-annual 'Cuse Awards coming up on May 1, four new categories are now open for fan voting on the department's Facebook page. Fans can now vote online for Play of the Year, Men's and Women's Team of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
The gala awards show, patterned after ESPN's ESPY Awards, will be held on Tuesday, May 1 on the SU campus. Some 600 student-athletes will attend the event, along with coaches, staff and University administrators. Although it is not open to the public, the show will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports and streamed on Orange All Access.
The event honors the extraordinary accomplishments of Syracuse's student-athletes and coaches in athletic competition, academics, and community service initiatives. Fans have the opportunity to vote on this year's awards below or by logging on to the department's Facebook page.
Award categories include: Male and Female Athlete of the Year, Coach and Team of the Year and Male and Female Rookie of the Year, as well as Game, Shot, Performance and Play of the Year. Awards will also be handed out for the top Team Grade-Point-Average, the 'Cuse Cares Award and the Courage Award.
Votes will be tabulated and used as one of the contributing factors in determining the award winners. The 'Cuse Awards committee will also consider performance, team contribution, statistics, conference and national recognition, as well as input from coaches, teammates and staff members.
