2011 'Cuse Award Nominees
Syracuse University student athletes are trading in their cleats for heels, their uniforms for suits, and their hard work for some well deserved celebration. It's time for the Fifth Annual 'Cuse Awards.
The Fifth Annual Syracuse University Department of Athletics 'Cuse Awards is tonight at the Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center on the SU campus. The program will celebrate the year in Syracuse Athletics and honor Orange student-athletes who have excelled on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. The event will be streamed live on Orange All Access and televised live Time Warner Cable Sport beginning at 8:00 p.m.
Syracuse University Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross established the 'Cuse Awards in 2007 to celebrate the achievements of all Orange student-athletes.
The evening will honor SU's Athletes of the Year, Coach of the Year, the Soladay Awards, Rookies of the Year, Performance of the Year, Play of the Year, Game of the Year, Shot of the Year, Defensive Play of the Year, Team of the Year, Most Improved Team, the Ernie Davis Courage Award, and each individual team's 'Cuse Award winner. The 'Cuse Awards will also honor first team All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, the team with the highest collective grade point average, the most points in the NACDA Director's Cup, and the team that has done the most community engagement.
“I think everyone really likes the whole vibe because it is the one time of year when everyone comes together to honor what all of the student-athletes and teams have accomplished,” said 'Cuse Awards producer Roger Springfield. “We have received feedback that the student-athletes enjoy the evening because they don't really know what other teams accomplish because they may be in season at the same time. They may hear something, but when they sit there and see the accomplishments of the other teams, that means something.”
